Six Years Of Lipstick: We Commemorate Jedward’s First Eurovision Performance

Tonight marks the grand final of Eurovision 2017, held in Kyiv, Ukraine. Tomorrow is the 6th anniversary of the Eurovision Grand Final 2011, which was held in Dusseldorf Germany, and the date that many people across Europe, and indeed the world, caught their first glimpse of Jedward, as they took to the stage representing Ireland, with their song, ‘Lipstick’.

John and Edward, who last night performed a DJ set and Meet and Greet at Glasgow’s Savoy Nightclub, shared on their Twitter account this morning their joy at celebrating six years of ‘Lipstick’:

Jedward finished in 8th place in 2011, giving Ireland their highest placing in over a decade. Ireland hadn’t ranked higher since 2000, when Eamonn Toal finished in the 6th spot, with his song, ‘Millennium of Love’.

Let’s revisit Jedward’s final performance:

John and Edward of course returned to Eurovision in 2012, where they finished in 19th place with their song, ‘Waterline’. The competition that year took place in Baku, Azerbaijan.
