St Vincent de Paul Ireland have today launched their Twin campaign, and invited Ireland’s most famous twins, Jedward, to help out. Running throughout October, the campaign sets out to encourage people to “Donate with style, volunteer with passion”.

Speaking to The Irish Times, John and Edward said that they regularly visited charity shops, and had even purchased the jackets worn on their X Factor audition, way back in 2009, from that very St Vincent de Paul branch, in Sean McDermott St, Dublin.

Edward says that John has a CD obsession, while John added that St Vincent de Paul has definitely fed his collection. Additionally, Edward related about the time he found a leather flight jacket and he used to wear it all the time.

“We used to turn up in school and look the biz, and everyone thought we were loaded, but we weren’t.”

You can see the full video on The Irish Times’ website here. Find out more about St Vincent de Paul and their Twin campaign here, where you can also find details on how to volunteer with the society as well as donate.

Jedward visited Europe’s financial capital over the weekend, leading fans in a two day adventure through Frankfurt.

With fans already booked to visit Frankfurt because of the cancelled Eurovision Convention, John and Edward announced a few weeks ago that they would still be coming on the weekend of 9-10 September. They planned several activities, which went down very well with close to 100 fans representing almost ten countries.

After arriving early on Saturday afternoon, Jedward announced that we would all be meeting at Frankfurt Zoo at 3pm. Over two hours were spent there visiting the animals, taking photos, and generally having a good time, before once again meeting up at 7pm at Dippemess Fun Fair, the largest of its kind in the region, which takes place twice a year on the festival ground in front of Frankfurt’s ice hockey stadium, Eissporthalle.

The second day fans once again met up with John and Edward, this time at Eiserner Steg Bridge, ahead of a boat tour up and down the River Main. This was followed by a visit to Main Tower, where everyone enjoyed photos, chat, and spectacular views of Frankfurt and beyond.

John and Edward had already spent time with fans on Friday night, having gone down an absolute storm at Dundee University’s Fresher’s event.

Eight Years Of Jedward!

The 22nd August is an auspicious time in the lives of Jedward fans, as it marks the date that John and Edward Grimes (and together they were John and Edward) first appeared on UK and Irish TV. We’ve covered the occasion most years, and seen the Dublin twins go from strength to strength, and become woven even more firmly into the fabric of public consciousness.

Since this time last year, John and Edward have released two new singles – ‘Hologram’, in October, and ‘Oxygen’, in January. They held a special concert at London’s O2 Academy to celebrate their 25th birthday, on 16 October. In 2017, due to other work commitments, they’ve had only one full concert, at Dublin’s Button Factory in February, but they’ve also performed at Scottish venues The Polo Club and The Savoy Club, and were the main attraction at the South Tyneside Festival, in South Shields, last month.

It’s been a big year for seeing Jedward on TV, with the pair finishing in second place behind Coleen Nolan in the winter series of ‘Celebrity Big Brother’, and their third appearance on ‘Pointless Celebrities’ was finally screened in April, after being recorded last year.

John and Edward let the public see into their private lives in Lucy Kennedy’s series, ‘Living With Lucy’, a programme which showed them to be the mature, work-focused adults that fans have always known and loved.

This autumn will see an even more intimate look at them, as we follow their quest to find love, on MTVs new series, ‘Single AF’ (Single. Available. Famous). Set to be screened in 62 countries, the show focuses on John and Edward’s separate journeys to love – as well as those of YouTuber Elliot Crawford, Marnie Simpson from MTVs ‘Geordie Shore’, former boyband member Casey Cody Johnson, drag queen Courtney Act, and Farrah Abraham, most famous for ‘Teen Mom’. The show sent the singletons around the world, including Australia, Mexico, Spain, Sweden and Italy to name a few locations, with a week long stay in a Chateau in the countryside outside Paris. The programme is the first time the pair have worked separately, and it’ll be interesting to see how the public respond to knowing John, and Edward, as individuals. The multi-episodic MTV Single AF is set to air from the end of October.

Jedward were also in ‘Sharknado 5: Global Swarming’, now becoming an annual fixture in the sharks vs tornados franchise. This year’s role saw the pair acting as named characters: in ‘Sharknado 3’ they played themselves, the following year they were ‘”Astro Techs”. This year Edward played “Cameron”, while John was “Mick”. Once again they managed to escape the jaws of the sharks, and so with Sharknado 6 a certainty, it’s hoped they will make a fourth appearance.

In April this year John and Edward visited Amsterdam for the first VidCon Europe convention, where they sat in on seminars and met up with fans and other video content creators.

John and Ed spent a lot of time with their close friend Ed Sheeran at the beginning of this year, with the ‘Shape Of You’ singer telling The Irish Sun that “it’s weird” if you don’t like them:

“I love Jedward. It’s like a puppy, there is no way you can dislike Jedward.

“There is no side to them at all that’s nasty – they are just nice. For people not to like them is weird.”

The three firm friends met up in Glasgow where they were all performing on the same night, and made a video which perfectly sums up their relationship:

John and Edward have further cemented themselves into the history of Eurovision, by being judges at not only the Irish heats for Junior Eurovision, but also as judges at the Junior Eurovision final, held in Valetta, Malta, last November. They will return again this year as judges in the Irish heats, when the country makes its third tilt at the Junior Eurovision crown.

As they turn 26 this year, we can only hope that there’ll be more acceptance of the mature Jedward, and that they will continue to surprise us, enthrall us, and maybe even shock us – with what they have planned for the next year. One thing we know for sure, as in the paraphrased lyrics of their song, ‘Free Spirit’:

“Nothing can get them down
No barriers can stop them now
They’ve got the power in their hearts
These guys are free spirits”

So here’s to eight years of Jedward, and many many more to come!

Six Years Since The Victory Of Jedward

Irish twins John and Edward Grimes, first burst into the public eye in 2009, when as 17 year old school boys, they appeared on UK talent show, The X Factor.

The boys, as they were then, caused a sensation, known as the Jedward paradox, the nation was divided, in a love/hate relationship with the young singers. Jedward eventually finished a respectable 6th place.

Due to their ongoing popularity, it was decided they should quickly release an album of covers which was titled ‘Planet Jedward’. Containing a heady mix of banging pop songs, it soon reached double platinum in the twins native Ireland and paved the way for their second album, ‘Victory’.

The exciting thing about ‘Victory’, released in Ireland on 5 August 2011, and in the UK, 6 years ago today on 15th August 2011, is that it showed Jedward weren’t a one hit wonder and had the ability to sing more than just covers.

With ‘Victory’ John and Edward were able to source their own original tracks, from some of the world’s best writers,  and have them stand up against any other song in the charts.

They created a classic Pop album, that is still much loved to this day. ‘Victory’ also achieved double platinum status in Ireland and the twins made inroads into the European and Asian markets, helped along by their iconic Eurovision hit ‘Lipstick’.

This trend continued with their third album ‘Young Love’, a concept album, which told the highs and lows of falling in love and showed a more mature sound and subject matter for the duo. The album contained hits like their second Eurovision entry, ‘Waterline’, catchy EDM track ‘Luminous’, which was written by some of the same composers behind The Chainsmokers’ recent single, ‘Paris’, and title track, ‘Young Love’, which has been covered by both American and Asian artists.

Now with tracks from their much-anticipated fourth album taking shape, we’re seeing what those young twins, who first stepped onto the stage and into the public consciousness almost eight years ago, are truly capable of. As independent artists, they are writing and producing all their own material, as well as creating their own music videos, which they release via their own PlanetJedward label.

From their first self released single, the beautifully harmonic ‘Free Spirit’, released in 2014, through to inspirational tracks, ‘Make Your Own Luck’, ‘Leave A Mark’, and ‘The HOPE Song’, to the rap title song for Sharknado 3, ‘Oh Hell No’, as well as EDM tracks such as ‘Ferocious’,  ‘Good Vibes’, ‘Hologram’, and most recently, ‘Oxygen’. Jedward have seen their self created tracks and videos top the iTunes singer/songwriter and video charts worldwide.

As we celebrate six years of their second album, one thing is certain, whatever the future may hold for John and Edward, victory is certainly assured.

Jedward Cover Linkin Park’s ‘Numb’ As Tribute To Chester Bennington

Fans of California rock band Linkin Park and the world of entertainment alike were shocked at the recent death of the band’s frontman, Chester Bennington.

No less affected were Jedward, who have long loved Linkin Park’s music, and had already covered their song, ‘One More Light’, which they had dedicated to those who died in the terrorist tragedy in Manchester.

At the time of Chester’s death, just over a month afterwards, the pair penned this heartfelt letter about how his parting had touched them:

Tonight, they published a further acoustic cover by John, dedicated to Chester, and his colleagues in Linkin Park – Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Joe Hahn and Dave Phoenix Farrell. The song, ‘Numb’, is taken from Linkin Park’s 2003 album, ‘Meteora’, and topped Billboard’s ‘Hot Modern Rock Tracks’ chart for 12 weeks after its release.
